From our Kitchen to Yours – Recipes We Love

by | Jul 26, 2018 | Lifestyle | 0 comments

An appreciation for food and a passion for cooking and baking is something that we at Sawhill Custom Kitchens & Design share with many of our clients.  Blessed as we are to have the Sawhill showroom located in International Market Square, right next door to the Lyndale Avenue Minneapolis Farmer’s Market, our Sawhill staff frequently runs over to the market to shop the bountiful supplies of fresh produce, bread, and other products during the summer months.

As we write this, it is July, and we are entering the peak of the Farmer’s Market season when walking down each aisle is a colorful pallet of fresh vegetables and delicious ingredients.  In celebration, we ‘re taking this month’s blog post to share some of our team member’s favorite recipes – from our kitchen to yours!  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

According to Sawhill co-owner, Susan Palmquist, you can never have enough side dish recipes in the summer because there is always meat (or protein) cooking on the grill!  This recipe is fresh, quick and delicious, making it a perfect fit for summer meals enjoyed outside on the deck or patio.

Sawhill designer Stefany Taylor Krupke loves cooking healthy and this recipe is one of her favorites in part because it so easily adapted with whatever ingredients you have on hand.  Stefani will frequently add in her latest Farmer’s Market finds like broccoli, carrots, zucchini or bok choy.

Jamaican Jerk Ribs

Jamaican Jerk Ribs 2 - Sawhill Custom Kitchens & DesignShared by Tim Aden

Sawhill co-owner Tim Aden, has visited Jamaica numerous times (including his honeymoon 27 years ago!). This recipe was originally made by friends in their ‘Dinner Club’ group years ago.  He and his wife loved the recipe so much they’ve been making them ever since.  Tim notes that you can also boil the ribs before marinating to boil off some of the fat but that they prefer to grill or smoke the ribs instead without boiling them first.

Come for the Farmer’s Market, Stay for the Expert Advice!

Farmers Market Bag - Sawhilll Custom Kitchens & DesignThe passion we share with our clients for trying new recipes and enjoying meals with friends and family is one of the reasons our kitchens are known for their attention to detail – we understand kitchens better because we love to be in them!  If you are considering a new kitchen design or kitchen remodel, please stop by our showroom to discuss your project with one of our designers and afterward, walk over to the Farmers Market to shop with a complimentary reusable Sawhill shopping bag!  Our designers are happy to answer your questions about our process, learn more about your project and discuss options.

We hope you enjoy these recipes and encourage you to share your favorite recipes as well!  We’ll leave you with one of our favorite food-related quotes by Luciano Pavarotti, “One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating.”
