Over the past year, we’ve featured several kitchen remodel transformations here on our blog. Today, we are moving our project focus to another area of the home, the master bathroom. Frankly speaking, master bathrooms deserve some love and attention. As an area that we use daily, a master bathroom is a very personal space within the home. Why shouldn’t it reflect your taste and lifestyle? It’s also one of two home improvement projects that pay-off in resale (the other being the kitchen).
BATHROOM REMODEL TRANSFORMATION – FROM BLAND TO MEDITERRANEAN WARMTH
This particular bathroom remodel project featured quite a dramatic change from start to finish, going from a monochromatic, generic design to a warm and inviting space. The project also included a remodeling of the adjoining master bedroom, unifying the two rooms into a beautiful retreat. Our homeowners wanted the master bedroom and bathroom to allude to the original features of their traditional Mediterranean style home. They also wished to improve the function of the space. Their wish list included a vanity with 2 stations, an enclosed shower, a relaxing bath tub area and a separate enclosed toilet area.
With only the existing perimeter to work with, we devised a new layout that made a lot more sense by changing the location of a window, wall and door. Radiators in the bath area were changed to in-floor heat and a heated towel rack was added. Taking cues from the original parts of the Mediterranean style home, aged dark wood tones, Travertine floors with complimentary counter top and tile and intricate light fixtures were carefully selected.
