Sometimes it is difficult to imagine an existing space as anything other than as it currently is or believe that you can have any kind of dramatic impact by changing just one area in a home.

That is why before-and-after features are so incredibly popular.  They offer proof of the amazing transformations that can happen and inspire homeowners to imagine the possibilities within their own home.  Whether you built your home and have now outgrown your kitchen space or bought an existing home that never truly fit your style or needs, a beautiful and functional transformation is possible.  At Sawhill Custom Kitchens & Design, our job is to solve concerns, deliver beautiful and functional interiors using quality materials, and ensure your comfort during every stage of a project. We offer the flexibility to use our entire array of services, from design to remodeling to design-build, delivering stunning results that help you live more comfortably, beautifully and efficiently.

Here is our first in a series of before-and-after Sawhill kitchen remodel projects.  We hope these project features inspire you to dream about what your kitchen space can become. Please feel welcome to contact us with any questions or talk about your dream project. We’d love the chance to share more details about our work and help get you started.

BEFORE-AND-AFTER KITCHEN TRANSFORMATION: ‘OPEN SESAME’

Having built this home over 20 years ago, our homeowners now wanted to update the main living spaces to appeal to their new and modern way of living.  The seldom used formal dining room and living room were wasting space.  The view to the gorgeous and private back yard, which they had grown to love, was not maximized.  Modern technology was not as integrated into their lives as it is now.  They built the home while they were just starting their family of four, and now their two sons are grown up and off to college!  It was time for their house to catch up to their changes.

Some of the objectives for this project included:

  • Open up the small bump out U-shaped kitchen surrounded by walls, and integrate the unused formal dining room and living room to create an open plan space with new functions
  • Create a cozy lap-top, reading and coffee space with views to the outside
  • Add as many windows to the back wall as possible to maximize the view to nature and the private backyard
  • Create a casual eating space for four, connected to the kitchen with a view of a TV
  • Open up the kitchen to the new, less formal dining space
  • Update their current family room, laundry room and powder room to create flow for the new first level

Keeping these objectives in mind while addressing several design challenges, our team designed a layout that opened up the space and complimented the homeowners new phase of life.  Special features such as warm, rich woods, combined with quartz counters, travertine flooring, handmade ceramic tile, unique lighting and heated floors in the kitchen & cozy coffee nook to provide warmth add both comfort and interest to the space.  The result is an amazing transformation in both function and aesthetics.
